Christianity According to the Bible: Separating Cultural Religion from Biblical Truth

by Ron Rhodes

Have you heard people say "People can be so heavenly minded that they're no earthly good"? Or "God helps those who help themselves"? Or "Cleanliness is next to godliness"? Or that people become angels at death? Or that a loving God would never send anyone to hell? Or that all religions lead to God? Or that Jesus is one of many ways to salvation?

This book addresses the question: What if the Christianity you believe in is not the genuine, bona fide Christianity of the Bible?

Have you ever pondered the possibility that even though most of your Christian beliefs are biblical, others may find more support in other traditions? Have you ever secretly asked whether your view of salvation is rooted more in the official position of your denomination than the Bible? These are important questions.

It is the position of this book that Christianity has been tainted — at least to some degree — by modern culture, and this tainting has altered key doctrines in the Bible.

This book gets to the heart of what Christianity is all about based on the one book that really matters, the Bible — God's direct special revelation to humankind. This book bypasses the spin, hype, and false caricatures and lets the Bible speak for itself regarding what Christianity is and what it is not. If you are interested in liberation from false ideas about Christianity and Christian teachings, then this book is for you. It will "tell it like it is" and provide you with the real thing — the real Christianity and real biblical teachings.

Ron Rhodes really does a great job. AGAIN! This is the 4th book of his I have read. When I start reading I couldn’t seem to put it down. I end up reading 100 pages a day.... Buy the book.

With so many views, so many books and so many years of history, it can be overwhelming to find a great "primer" on the Christian faith. Christians and non-Christians alike will benefit from this short but jam-packed work by Ron Rhodes, a very gifted writer and educator. In just 15 chapters, Rhodes tackles the big questions and sheds light on a number of teachings, traditions, and "in-house" debates that is likely to start you in a conversation on what the Bible really teaches. There are ample Scripture quotations to get you into the Bible itself. The helpful Notes Section and Bibliography points you to further resources on specific topics. Each chapter ends with a set of discussion questions that help you explore more of your understandings either on your own or to be used in a group setting.... It is a must-have for both new and mature Christians alike.

In Christianity According To the Bible, Ron Rhodes has given us a clear, easy to understand, description of what the Bible says about God, Jesus, human sin, salvation, the church, angels, Satan, end times, and more. He use plenty of scripture references to back up what he says. I hadn't read anything by Ron Rhodes before, but I'm happy to have discovered him. I've taught God's Word for 40 years and I found this to be an outstanding resource and teaching tool, one I'll refer back to time and again. In my opinion Christianity According to The Bible is an excellent book for any Christian who wants a clear understanding of what God's Word says about these important subjects.

A fitting subtitle for this book might be, though it is not given as such, "Systematic Theology Light." Most basic questions about what does it mean to be a Christian and what do Christians believe are addressed. In a society where seeker-sensitivity has watered down what most churches preach, this book attempts to clear up areas that have become blurred. Issues covered include tithing, the afterlife, the Trinity, endtimes, and how to study the Bible. A new believer will find this a useful primer on their faith.
